23-year-old shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale has now kept 3 out of 3 clean sheets for the Gunners and therefore it is safe to say that as far as his competition with Leno is concerned, things are going smoothly for him. The impenetrable defense of Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes has also proved to be a real shield for the goalkeeper.
Ramsdale has made a number of remarkable saves in the first three games he has played and this has proved to be a key influence in Mikel Arteta’s decision to start him. If it continues like this, Bernd Leno will likely be demoted to the second-choice goalkeeper position. This being said, a slight slip-up in the defense by either goalkeeper will be detrimental to their race for the number one choice race.
Gabriel and Tomiyasu
The Arsenal defenders who stole the show today were Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Magalhaes who displayed combative and dominant performances against Burnley. The two were very receptive in their defensive duties as they mounted a great wall which denied Burnley a sight at goal.
In recognition of their efforts, Arteta said that he was completely amazed by the performance of the two defenders. He added that the two showed resilience and a strong football mentality which ensured that Burnley attackers were pocketed throughout. If the two defenders continue with their outstanding performance, then they might just establish themselves as indispensable players in the Arsenal squad.
After their narrow win, Arsenal players and fans expressed their mixed feelings to each other in a series of celebrations. A number of Arsenal players were spotted giving their jerseys away to fans who were applauding the lads for their impressive performance against Burnley. A group of spectators was also heard singing Arsenal’s old anthem and this amused many who were not aware of the club’s anthem because of just how old it is.
