Impressive Erick Ouma Stats that have attracted top clubs

Manchester City, Brighton and Hove Albion, Leicester City and Celtic are some of the clubs who have been reported to be interested in Kenyan international Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma with his impressive stats part of the reason behind his links to high profile clubs.

The former Gor Mahia defender has grown in leaps and bounds since his move to Sweden from Albanian outfit KS Kastrioti to Vasalund who ply their trade in the lower leagues of the Scandinavian country.

At AIK, the 25-year-old has established himself as a modern wingback with his outstanding performances not flying under the radar as top clubs continue to circle for his signature but the Swedish side managed to hold on to his services for another year.

His exceptional season last campaign saw his market value rise from €100,000 (Ksh12,300,000) to €1,500,000 (Ksh185,000,000) after scoring a goal and providing five assists.

Ouma’s meteoric rise is showing no signs of abating as he has extended his blistering form to 2022 which has seen Scottish champions Celtic enter the race for his services with manager Ange Postecoglou left impressed by him.

In the 2021 season, only Edward Chilufya completed more dribbles in the Allsvenskan than Ouma with the Zambian midfielder earning a move to Danish giants Midtjylland in the January transfer window.

According to stats compiled by The Analyst, the fleet footed wingback has the most successful dribbles and the highest success rate of all players with more than 30 attempts this season.

His forte is not only on dribbles as Ouma is also effective in covering vast distances with the ball with only Helsingborg winger Taha Ali making more progress with his carries.

In his 11 games this season Otieno moved the ball more than five meters upfield 104 times, with a total carry progress distance of 1263 meters.

The diminutive full back also possesses the most important stat in football as since the start of 2021 Otieno has provided more assists than any other defender (7) and only one defender has created more chances from open play (33) or generated more expected assists (5.9) than the AIK full-back.

The Analyst went on to heap praise on Ouma as they tipped him to become on of the great exports from the Swedish league as he has mastered their brand of football.

“Otieno has been wonderful at pairing style with substance and in a way that encapsulates what the Swedes would like their brand of football to be,” read part of the article.
