Since the virus was declared a global pandemic, things have never been the same again. Fun moments like sports which brought people together were stopped to help contain the spread of the deadly virus. Different soccer players have been seen trying to help in the fight against Corona Virus.
Drogba and Eto'o
When the virus came strong early last year, we saw how different footballers helped their countries in fighting the virus. Most of them made donations to aid in research and also treatment of the sick in various hospitals. Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi are among the players who have made big donations to their countries.
Mane and Salah
African soccer players were also not left behind. Mane donated £1 million to Senegal to help the government fight the virus while Salah donated $15 million to Egypt. Legends like Drogba and Eto'o also played big roles in helping their countries fight the pandemic. We also saw Kenyan players like Olunga and Kahata aid the government in fighting the pandemic.
Well, it will surprise you that one famous African who played in the Premier League for several years refused to make any donations to his country. Emmanuel Adebayor did not donate to his country as many people expected him to do. The former Arsenal star clearly said that he will not make any donations especially after he felt like he was being criticized for not making efforts like Drogba, Eto'o and the rest.
He also added that he did not bring Corona to Togo and people should stop giving him the unnecessary pressure to donate. He reminded his followers that he is not Drogba and that people should stop comparing him to the Ivorian legend. He said that he does not donate and he will not make any donations.
