The news about the death of Olympic silver medalist Agnes Tirop has swept the whole world like a wild fire. Every media company, bloggers and newspapers went ahead to report the bad news to the public. Social media platforms were also active for people to share their grievances and to say their sorry to the family members. Many stories have emerged from her last moment before death to what transpired until she met her untimely demise. Everyone was reporting the incident at a different point of view in what they assumed was good for the public.[Photo Courtesy]
We have witnessed many media companies in Kenya reporting about the story but we were asking ourselves if the world recognize our athletes. We believe that their fame have always reached in almost every part of the world because she was an international athlete. BBC News was among the biggest media company to recognize the death and efforts of the athlete.
The move by BBC is a good gesture to all Kenyans proving that they also recognize Kenyan talent. They have reciprocated what our media companies have been doing when it comes to international news. The biggest media companies in Kenya have always been at the forefront to announce any breaking news from outside the country and it looks like other countries have emulated it.
