Arsenal: Edu’s Biggest Transfer Mistake Revealed, Race for Gundogan Opens, Gabriel’s Quick Recovery

Bruno Guimaraes

Recently, it was revealed to the media that the reason why Arsenal could not complete the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon was because the Gunners were slow in completing the deal. Mikel Arteta was in full support of the transfer of the Brazilian to Arsenal in January but Edu Gasper was skeptical as to how the 24 year old would add depth to the midfield. The club’s board too was divided on this decision and as a consequence, the negotiations took longer than ordinary and this gave Newcastle United the opportunity to sign him.

Bruno Guimaraes has proven to be a midfield prodigy in the last few months and has even been nominated for Player of the Month twice in his first season at the club. He has also scored 6 goals since signing with the Magpies which is quite impressive considering that he is a defensive midfielder.

Ilkay Gundogan

Manchester City are currently preparing to let go of Ilkay Gundogan in the summer and already three clubs have expressed their interest in the German midfielder. Barcelona, Arsenal and Bayern Munich have all approached the player’s agent about the prospects of joining their respective sides in the summer but they have been put on hold at the moment. It is believed that Manchester City are going to have very serious talks with the 30 year old inorder to explain to him why they have decided to let him go even after serving the club faithfully for 6 years.

Arsenal are currently looking for a midfielder who can challenge Granit Xhaka for a spot in the starting eleven. Sambi Lokonga who was signed last summer to replace Granit Xhaka has not had an impressive season this year and that has greatly affected Mikel Arteta’s plans for this season.

Gabriel Magalhaes

There is growing concern at the club about Gabriel Magalhaes' fitness especially after he made a surprising appearance against Newcastle United on Monday. Fans have warned Arteta against rushing players back from injury because doing this has a counterproductive effect on the club’s perfomance. Magalhaes has not been spotted in training for the past couple of days and many are suspecting that it has something to do with his involvement in Monday’s game.
