Manchester United fans recently spotted that Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes had a confrontation after winning the Carabao Cup. As it turns out, the two were just joking to each other after the match but for some reason many think that there was a motive behind the childish play on the pitch. They believe that there could have been some intent by Casemiro to address Fernandes’ defensive deficiencies.
“It may look like an innocent gesture on the pitch but I think there is more to it. In fact I wish it would have been true that the two really had an altercation after the match. Bruno Fernandes’ defensive response has not been impressive this season despite Ten Hag insisting that all players should track back when under attack. Maybe Casemiro was trying to remind Fernandes about it,” observed Simon Jordan.

As mentioned earlier, one of the things that Ten Hag has reformed at Manchester United is the fact that defensive duties are non-negotiables. Everyone must recover ground whenever they are under attack and that also involves the center forward as has been seen lately with Werghost in the #9 role. Bruno has to really improve his defensive skills if he wants a smooth campaign next season.

My opinion
Lisandro Martinez has been a standout this season for Manchester United. Apart from proving his critics wrong, he has made the club a great team in more ways than one. Leading by example to the other players has had a big hand in elevating the quality of gameplay on the pitch. His fearlessness seems to have rubbed in on some of the younger players in the squad like Marcus Rashford who is now having the World at his feet.

Finishing the season on a strong note should be Manchester United’s mantra at the moment. There are still over 20 fixtures to be played and Ten Hag is going to need more than 100% from each player. No room for mistakes will be allowed and those who derail from the prime objective will be sidelined without questions asked. Everyone must perform exceptionally in their respective roles.
