As PL Title Hope Grows, A Swap Deal For An Old Flame Is In The Works

Here's the latest from the Emirates:

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Arsenal have won seven games and lost one, leaving them with 21 points, one point ahead of the defending champions, Manchester City.

There are many opinions on whether Arsenal is a title contender right now. Many are skeptical that the Gunners can sustain a title challenge, but William Gallas believes they can. He believes that game after game, beginning with the Liverpool match, the Gunners can demonstrate how serious they are about winning the Premier League. "What Arsenal need to do is keep believing in their quality, and if they approach their matches with this desire and level of intensity, then they can compete with any club in the league. Arsenal need to keep doing this," said Gallas.

"They need to take this approach into their next game against Liverpool, which will be another big test, but if they can produce the same football with the same intensity, then they will have a great opportunity to beat Liverpool."

Meanwhile, according to the Express, Arsenal could sign old flame Manuel Locatelli in a swap deal. Arsenal were looking to bolster their central midfield in the summer of 2021 and had identified Locatelli, the then-Sassoulo man, as their top target. However, they were beaten to his services by Juventus, and Arsenal went on to sign Sambi Lokonga.

Lokonga has not lived up to the expectations placed on him, leaving Arsenal with a need to still strengthen their midfield. According to reports, the Gunners have rekindled their interest in the Juve man. Lokonga and Locatelli are all valued at £26 million, so Arsenal are eager to offer the former Anderlecht man in exchange for their old flame.
