There is one thing about Xhaka. He may not be the best possible #8 in the world but his character and influence are largely unmatched at Arsenal which means he's imperative to the project. Quality players are essential, but leadership is even more important. Just look at Liverpool.
Thing is, Xhaka is capable of metronomically controlling football games. His influence on games is huge thanks to his pass count, braveness to constantly show for the ball, & high-quality passing. Let's not forget that he held Arsenal together at the beginning of Arteta's rebuild.
Arsenal needs a big character to replace him in the XI, and that's also partially why I feel Ødegaard makes complete sense as the left #8. He has the leadership qualities Xhaka possesses but increased technical security and quality thanks to his press resistance which Xhaka lacks.
The Swiss international player is a real gem to Gunner's side who can not be replaced.
