Manchester United were after a top defensive midfielder earlier in the summer transfer window, but it seems the chances of recruiting one are very slim.
Several top midfielders including: Atletico Madrid Saul Niguez, West Ham United Declan Rice, Wolverhampton Wanderers Ruben Nevez and Rennes Eduardo Cammavinga were among the targets of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Eduardo Cammavinga who was speculated to be in contention to join Manchester United opted to join Real Madrid from Rennes after the Spanish side submitted a €30 million offer which was agreed.
According to reliable Manchester United journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Manchester United did not pursue the transfer for Eduardo Cammavinga because the player had set his sights on a move to Real Madrid and no other club.
The young midfielder was set to wait till next summer to complete a move to Real Madrid if the deal could not have been agreed this summer.
Manchester United tried as much as they could in an attempt to sign Cammavinga, but the deal never went through.
