Chelsea: Pulisic and Potter Have Diverging Ideas About the Future of the American at the Club

Graham Potter, in a recent interview, confirmed that Christian Pulisic will be sidelined from the squad after sustaining a serious knock against Fulham. Pulisic’s injury now brings the total tally of injuries at Chelsea to 10, with the current situation dwindling the club’s chances of finishing in the top four. Graham Potter also mentioned that Pulisic will not be sold this season as was earlier speculated by the media.

“Sadly he will be out for a couple of months. His injury adds to the growing toll at the club but we are hoping he gets back soon. The medical team are confident that with enough effort from the player, the return date could be halved. Regarding a potential exit for the player, I think that will not be possible at the moment. We want to keep him,” commented Graham Potter.

Potter’s comments on Pulisic’s future at Chelsea comes days after it was rumored that the American attacker wanted to leave the club. His agent revealed that the game time at Chelsea has become very limited with increase in the number of attackers in the squad. The arrival of Joao Felix is expected to slash even more playing minutes for the sensational forward.

My opinion

Christian Pulisic was heavily linked with a move to Everton and West Ham last summer but none of the deals went through. Frank Lampard wanted to sign the 26 year old as a direct replacement for Richarlison but Thomas Tuchel had promised to give the player more minutes. David Moyes offered a generous amount of money but Boehly turned down the offer because it had too many add-ons that wouldn’t guarantee full payment.

Pulisic’s time at Chelsea, from what I’ve seen, is over and what’s proper for him now is to seek a way out. His injury has only delayed the inevitable because he was bound to leave this month. Pulisic has also shown no interest in extending his contract which can only translate to his desire to find new waters next season.
