England took an early lead in the third minute when Manchester United left back arrived in the box to meet a perfectly timed cross from Mason Mount. The English wingback had been brilliant all tournament, setting up three goals before scoring the finals opener.
Italy however came back in the second half much more rejuvenated than their opponents and dominated possession, having as much as 74 percent of the ball. Their efforts were rewarded when center back Leonardo Bonucci bundled home from close range via an Italian corner after a shambolic defending from England.
Juventus winger Chiesa ran the proceedings as he looked to get the better of the English defense on many occasions. The game ended tied at 1-1 after 120 minutes and had to be decided by penalty shootouts. Rashford, Sancho and Saka all missed their spot kicks for England while Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, who is a master tacker of spot kicks also missed. Italy however got the better of England, scoring three penalties compared to England's two.
