His death was announced to the public by his son Boniface Kurgat on Friday. He revealed that his father lost his life while undergoing treatment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital’s Memorial on Thursday evening.
Kurgat said the Olympic 3000m steeplechase silver medalist was battling with prostate cancer as from May, 2021.
“He fell ill in April, 2021. He was battling with prostate cancer and was admitted at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in May, 2021 where he has been receiving treatment,” he said.
The veteran athlete got silver for Kenya at the 1968 Summer Olympics, in a marathon led by his compatriot Amos Biwott, who hails from Nandi.
Kogo never won finals at steeplechase at the 1964 Summer Olympics.
One year on, in 1965, he got gold at the first All-Africa Games performed at Brazzaville.
Friends and villagers have condoled with his family members.
