The Harambee Stars failed to qualify for Africa Cup of Nations finals at Cameroon after they came from a goal down to clinch a point against Egypt on Thursday. A point was not enough to make the Kenyan side qualify for the finals as they were 5 points behind second placed Egypt prior to kick off.
Harambee Stars needed to win against Egypt to have a glimpse of hope in playing in the finals at Cameroon come January next year.
Things started going sideways for Harambee Stars on the 2nd minute after kick off when Magdi Kafsha Mohammed netted home a ball from Hany Mohammed to make the visitors have an early lead.
The Kenyan players quickly composed themselves and kept the Egyptian players on their toes through out the first half but could not find the back of the net, thanks to the Egyptian goalkeeper Mohammed El Shenawy who kept all shots out from going behind him.
The Kenyan side seemed to be back on the game when Hassan Abdalla scored from close range to level the scores on the 65th Minute. The Kenyan skipper Michael Olunga came close to take the lead few minutes later but El Shenawy made sure the ball didn't pass him.
Things became sour at the 75th minute when Johnston Omurwa was given matching orders for an off ball offense and the Kenyan side had to rethink their strategy but held on to a point at the end of the match.
