Former Harambee stars captain MacDonald Mariga was today hosted by sports journalist Fred Arocho on his website dubbed Arocho live. The Kenyan international midfielder opened about life abroad and how kenyan football has been suffering since his time as a player. Mariga was not shy to talk about the football management in the country at the moment.

When asked about the current team, the former Intermilan midfield maestro said that the players have the talent but the management has let them down so far. He gave examples of players such as Denis Oliech who played in the champions league for Aj Auxurre, Victor Wanyama (Younger brother) who played for Southampton and Tottenham Hotspurs in the English premier league as well as Michael Olunga who featured for FC Girona in Spanish laliga.

Mariga was of the opinion that such players proves that Kenya has what it takes to play good football. He urged Nick Mwendwa to avoid blaming players but rather do his job.

On the same issue, the former football star compared the current allowance and what they used to receive. He says players have been paid less than one thousand Kenyan shillings per day as an allowance while during their time they used to receive five thousand shillings per day. Such scenarios have worked against the morale of the team. He urges sports journalists to be the watchdogs for the players.

He promises young players that he will try to meet the president of the Republic of Kenya so that he can help young players by setting everything right in the football Kenya federation. Mariga wants to meet the head of state so that he can disclose some issues to him. Meanwhile,he urged Arocho to continue hosting other former players so that they can help to air out views that will help the national team.

When asked about the champions league medal, Mariga says it was emotional to receive such an accolade and only imagined about how many Kenyan players could do what he did. Given a platform, Mariga believes that Harambee stars players can do better than him.
