Man United went down against Brentford in their third pre-season friendly which was their first home friendly match. The manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielded a squad mixed of experience and young talents. Heaton started at the goal and the defence composed of Wan Bissaka, Williams, Mengi and Tuanzebe. Midfield; Mata, Matic, Lingard and Pereira while Elanga and Mason Greenwood played upfront.
United opened the scoring through teenage sensation Anthony Elanga after linking with Wan Bissaka. Brentford equalised through Shandon Baptiste before the half time break. The second half was so lively as Andreas Pereira netted a sublime volley from 30 yards before their efforts were cancelled out in the last minutes of the game by Bryan Mbeumo.
Despite the draw, a couple of United lads were full of praise for the academy graduates like Elanga, Pellestri and Mengi. Van de Beek also made his comeback after recovering from injury. Lingard was once again superb operating from the flanks.
