Police banking on Ogolla’s experience to nail FKF-PL slot

Kenya Police FC team manager George Maelo is counting on his head coach John ‘Bobby' Ogolla's experience to help them secure a place in the FKF Premier League when they meet Vihiga United in the playoffs.

The two teams will meet in the first leg of the final top-flight spot race on Sunday at the Mumias Sports Complex, with the replay slated for a week later at the Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi.

Maelo believes Ogolla's Premier League expertise would be crucial in the two-legged playoffs.

"He is a football legend in this nation, commanding respect wherever he goes, and we believe his experience will be vital for us heading into that playoff," Maelo added.

Police finished third in the recently ended National Super League (NSL), while Vihiga United finished 14th, and the former Sofapaka FC defender believes that having the second leg at home will boost their morale significantly.

“Our fans and bosses will want to see us promoted to the league, and having the second leg at home will help us, but the most important thing is to win on Sunday, which will relieve pressure on us in the home game,” Maelo added.

"They have been in a situation like this before, and we saw the upset they gave to Kisumu All-Stars last season, so we are mindful of how much they don't want to be demoted, and we are heading there prepared for a tough encounter," the team manager said.
