Although Arsenal's midfield has been stable when Xhaka and Partey play together, there is a widespread belief that Xhaka is not the best midfield partner for Thomas Partey.

Arteta and Edu attempted to sign Juventus' Arthur Melo in January, hoping to pair him with Partey in Arsenal's midfield, but the deal fell through.
According to reports, Arsenal may rekindle their interest in Melo once the summer transfer window opens. Will they be twice as lucky?

According to Lewis Pangratiou of Football London,
"The Italian giants have reportedly devised a plan to tempt the Gunners by negotiating the services of Arthur when they eventually decide to firm up their interest in Gabriel ahead of next season."

Would Arteta replace Gabriel with Melo? No, I don't believe so. Gabriel is an important part of Arteta's project. However, Arsenal should not give up on Melo; if Arteta still wants him, he will find a way to sign him.
