Usually in many occasions, African footballers choose to represent European countries over their motherland Africa. In todays case we are looking at footballers who did quite the opposite, choosing yo represent African countries over their European nations.

1 - Ryad Mahrez (Algeria, France).

We start our topic with non other than Mahrez, the 30 year old natural winger was born and raised in France and even had represented the French national team in the youth ranks. The Algerian International plays for premier league side Manchester City and against all odds he chose Algeria over France for International duties.

2 - Hakim Ziyech (Morocco, Netherlands).

Hakim Ziyech is a professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder or right winger for English Premier league side Chelsea and Morocco national team. Ziyech 27 years old was born and raised in Dutch despite the fact that he represents Morocco.

The pacy player represented the Dutch national team in the youth ranks but opted for Morocco later in his career.

3 - Medhi Benatia (Morocco, France).

Benatia is a professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Qatari club Al-Dahail. The former Morocco captain was born and raised in France and even played for the French national team in the youth ranks before choosing Morocco over France.

The sensational defender has duol nationality of France and Morocco.
