Football action was back on our screens on Sunday as big games were lined up for football fans across the world. Club competitions went on a break to allow players to represent their national teams in different international competitions. On Sunday 2018 FIFA World Cup champions France was facing Spain in UEFA Nations League 2021/2022 finals.
France had recorded mixed results in their previous games but they were considered the favorites to lift this prestigious trophy because of the quality of their squad that launched a comeback in the semi-finals to defeat Belgium.
Spain opened the scoring through Mikel Oyazabal in the 64th minute. The world champions pulled one goal back immediately through Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema. Kylian Mbappe added the second goal on the 80th minute which sealed the victory for Didier Deschamps's men.
However, much attention was focused on Karim Benzema who is on hot form since returning to the French National team. The forward is on the scoring spree both for his country and the club. He scored in the semi-finals as well as in the finals
He has scored nine goals in La Liga this season, one goal in UEFA Champions League, and two in Nations League. He has also been involved in more than 20 goals scored this season. His scoring spree has made him leapfrog the likes of Halland and Lewandoski to became the new scoring machine in Europe.
Benzema has also won a total of 26 trophies in his career. Won 1 with France, 7 with Lyon, and 18 titles with Real Madrid.
