Chelsea Star Yet To Agree Contract Extension

Chelsea football club was probably one of the few Premier League clubs that remained active during the recently closed summer transfer season.

The West London club are determined to improve their fortunes under Thomas Tuchel's direction and have strengthened their team with the additions of Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Bettinelli.

Chelsea have climbed to the top of the Premier League table with those acquisitions, having amassed 22 points from their nine league matches thus far.

Despite their strong start to the season, Chelsea may now be shaken by suggestions that experienced central defender Antonio Rudiger is set to leave the club.

The 28-year-old Germany international joined Chelsea in 2017 after leaving Serie A side AS Roma. He has been a key member of Chelsea's first team squad in recent seasons.

The seasoned central defender was instrumental in helping the Blues win their second UEFA Champions League title last season.

Antonio Rudiger appeared in 34 games across all competitions in 2020/2021, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

The seasoned centre-back has also had a strong start to the 2021/2022 season, scoring one goal and recording one assist in his 12 appearances thus far.

Antonio Rudiger's current contract with Chelsea expires in less than a year and according to popular transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano's verified Twitter profile, he has yet to agree on a new deal.

Additionally, Fabrizio Romano stated that Chelsea is not given up just yet as they are still in talks with him to extend his contract and are hopeful that the situation will improve soon.

If Antonio Rudiger declines to extend his contract, it remains to be seen if Chelsea would take a risk and cash in on him in January or risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
