The 2022 FIFA World Cup begins

The much-awaited 2022 FIFA world cup finally kicked off on Sunday, 2022 with bangs by FIFA president Gianni Infantino. The Cup was opened with an energetic ceremony that featured Hollywood great Morgan Freeman and South Korean Popstar Jung Kook which featured Hollywood great Morgan Freeman and South Korean popstar Jung Kook. The opening match was between Qatar, the hosting team, and Ecuador Coast. Both teams seemed prepared and up to the task beforehand as Witnessed by the confidence portrayed by individual opponents.

Qatar conceded to Ecuador Coast after the former West Ham and Everton Striker, Enner Valencia scored twice in the opening game of the 2022 World Cup. The seasoned Footballer managed to score two goals in the first half of the match. Ecuador Captain Valencia wrote his name in the history books when he scored the first goal of Qatar 2022 from the penalty spot.

Ecuador took their foot off the gas in the second half which saw Qatar trying their best to bridge the two goals gap which did not bear fruits. This was contrary to their expectations as they had assured victory and a seventh consecutive clean sheet that would have seen them move top of group A.


Despite the preparedness and home-ground advantage, Qatar didn't manage to score even a single goal against their opponents. The outcome of the match saw Qatar going on record for being the first host nation to lose the opening match of a World Cup.

Succeeding matches will be England against Iran, Senegal versus the Netherlands, and the United States of America which will play against Wales. The matches are scheduled to begin at 1600hrs, 1900hrs, and 2200hrs respectively. Senegal and Netherlands will be tussling their muscles as they fight for position two in group A while the remaining teams will be negotiating for position one in Group B of the world cup fixtures
