Chelsea loses to Charlotte on penalties

The Blues found themselves losing in a familiar fashion after suffering a defeat to Charlotte in their second pre-season match.

Christian Pulisic scored the first goal at the 30th minute, putting the Blues ahead by the half-time. Raheem Sterling made his debut in the second half, coming in for Pulisic. However, this change made no difference as Chelsea struggled to net a second goal.

Charlotte got their chance to equalise after Trevor Chalobah conceded a penalty through a handball. Daniel Rios struck a fast one past Edouard Mendy at 92nd minute, taking the match to penalties.

Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling managed to find the back of the net but Connor Gallagher ended up with the weight of the loss after failing to score and giving Charlotte a much deserved win.

The Blues however have no time to spare as they prepare to face long-term rivals Arsenal this Sunday for the Florida Cup final.
