Exit still inevitable: Reason why the appointment of Graham Potter may not help Ziyech in Chelsea

On Thursday, Chelsea confirmed the appointment Graham Potter as replacement for Thomus Tuchel. Potter agreed to a five-year contract, which should give him enough time to put his philosophy into action at the club.

The arrival of the 47-year-old tactician would mark a new beginning for Chelsea, and it could give players who have fallen out of favor a clean slate.

Hakim Ziyech is one of the players who has lost his starting spot under Thomus Tuchel. The Moroccan international joined Chelsea under Frank Lampard and had a promising start despite injuries that kept him on the sidelines for most of the time.

Ziyech's opportunities were limited by the system, which relied heavily on the creativity of the wing-backs. He has become increasingly frustrated over the time, but the arrival of Graham Potter could provide him with an opportunity to reignite his stuttering Chelsea career. The English coach is said to be tactically versatile and could be the man to the ex-Ajax winger to rediscover his form.

However, Potter mostly uses a back-three system with his wing back pushing high up the pitch to create an overload in attack. This would imply that wide forwards like Ziyech would tuck in to create goal scoring opportunities.

Unfortunately, the Morroccan wizard will have still be overshadowed by the fullbacks if the coach would use the same approach like Tuchel. Ziyech will have reconsider his future, and an exit could be unavoidable.
