Chepkoyo village the home of the late Agnes Tirop, Nandi county are still trying to come terms with her sudden demise.
The 25-year-old marathon runner was found dead inside her room with stabbed wounds around her neck, with police naming her boyfriend as a key suspect.
According to her mother identified as Dinnah Tirop, her daughter never stayed married to anyone as it was aired by the newsrooms.
"She was never married to anyone. She has never brought us anyone here. We believe that one is just a friend. We don't know the man. Even Agnes has never told us that she want to get married," Dinnah said.
Tirop won bronze medals in the women's 10,000m at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships and came fourth in the 5,000m at the Tokyo Olympics.
Last month, Tirop broke the world record in the women-only 10km road race.
