Thomas Partey’s inclusion in yesterday’s match was a shock to many because it was expected that the Ghanian would have been rested for the North London Derby on Sunday. Mikel Arteta however explained that Thomas Partey was included in the squad because last season he made very few appearances for the club due to occasional injuries, so it was only right that he plays yesterday’s match.
From an analytical point of view, Thomas Partey had a decent performance last night with his golden moment coming deep in the second half where he launched a powerful shot 25 yards out but was punched away by AFC Wimbledon’s goalkeeper. Partey is still hunting for his first Arsenal goal and many are predicting that it will come from a long-range effort outside the opponent’s box.
During yesterday’s post-match interview, Mikel Arteta said he was particularly impressed by Eddie Nketiah’s performance given that he recently recovered from injury and there were a lot of rumors linking him to other clubs during the final days of the transfer window. Arteta said that Nketiah handled the pressure very well and therefore it is no surprise to him that the 21-year-old is banging Worlclass goals for the Gunners.
“Nketiah’s performance tonight is a reflection of his personality and commitment to the club. There were a lot of rumors and debates about his position at the club, but he held his head down and avoided the hearsays that were spreading all over. I am very happy with how he played today as well as the other ten players on our side.”
Arsenal’s right-back Cedric Soares expressed how delighted he was by the fan support in his Twitter account following Arsenal’s impressive win at the Emirates last night. He said that he felt the fans’ support behind him and that is what kept him going until he assisted the third goal late in the game.
