Kenya is highly regarded to be the home to accomplished long-distance runners, a fact that has been backed by its dominance in marathons and field tracks by some of the finest Athletes it has been producing.
It was double joy for Kenyans on Sunday, October 3 as Joyciline Jepkosgei who was participating in the prestigious London Marathon defied all the odds and emerged victorious in a highly competitive race.
Another Athlete Margaret Chelimo would hit the headlines yet again as she smashed the world record in Valencia Spain while participating in the 10,000m race.
Chelimo, who is the world silver medalist in the 5,000m race hit the finishing line at 29 minutes and 50 seconds on Sunday at the Ibercaja road race to break the record that had been set by Agnes Tirop at 30 minutes and one second and could not hide her joy after this new achievement.
"I had planned to run a good race because I had prepared well and I’m just happy that I managed a world record time. This is huge for me and it has come at the moment we are preparing for the next season,” said Chelimo.
