The Only African Player Who Has Set Records In Europe That No African Player Has So Far Broken

George Manneh Weah was born on 1st October 1966. He is a former professional footballer who is well known by the football world. The striker ended his career in 2003 after playing for a number of big European clubs like Monaco, PSG, AC Milan, Chelsea, Marseille and Manchester City. He is regarded as the best African footballer Europe has ever seen. He has two records in Europe which Africa's greatest footballers like Drogba, Eto'o and Adebayor were unable to beat. He is the only African player who has managed to win the Ballon D'or and FIFA Player of the Year. He won the awards in 1995.

During his 14 years in Europe, he won several trophies and even managed to finish as the top scorer in a UEFA Champions League. He was playing for PSG during the 1994/95 UEFA Champions League and despite reaching the semi finals, he managed a total of 7 goals which saw him finish as the top scorer. It can also be remembered that George won the Serie A title with AC Milan two times. He also won the FA Cup while on loan at Chelsea. Unfortunately, he is one of the best players in the world who has never won a UEFA Champions League title. He has also never featured in any World Cup tournament. However, he made 75 appearances for Liberia and scored a total of 18 goals.

George Weah is described as one of the fastest players with accurate finishing the world has ever seen. He was named the African Player of the Year in 1989, 1994 and 1995. In 1996, he was named the African Player of the Century.

Weah made his retirement official in 2003 while playing for Al -Jazira. He went back to Liberia and started focusing on politics. He ran for the president's seat in 2005 by his own party but he lost. In 2011, he ran for the position of the Vice President but he also lost. In 2014, he was elected as the senator of Montserrado County where he served until 2017 when he ran for the presidential seat. Fortunately, Liberians voted him as their 25th president. He is currently the president of Liberia and the first African player to play in Europe and later be the president in his home country.
