Julian Weigl Has Issued His Verdict on Tuchel Amid Chelsea Transfer Links as Declan Rice Alternative

Chelsea has been linked with a move for a defensive midfielder since the beginning of last summer. Declan Rice and Julian Weigl are names that constantly featured at Chelsea's radar for a long period. With Rice's price tag believed to be high, the West London club has set its sights to Benfica's Julian Weigl.

Benfica got Weigl from Dortmund in 2020 for a report led fee of around £17.5 m and with his demand across Europe, his fee has significantly rose to around £25.8million, a price tag reportedly set by Benfica. Tuchel worked with the Germany international creating a strong relationship between themselves, therefore a reunion would not be ruled out.

Asked about his reunion with Tuchel this is what the 25 year old had to say, "When Chelsea showed interest in me before the first half of the season, I naturally thought about my future. He added, I wanted to improve my sporting situation, and people know I can work well under Thomas Tuchel. It’s no secret."

Tuchel is concerned with back to back injuries veteran midfielder N'Golo Kanté is getting in recent game weeks. Julian Weigl is seen as his preferred fit to the deep lying midfield position in his capacity as Chelsea manager. It is likely Marina Granovskaia will sanction his move in January to bolster midfield options.
