Joe Kadenge was born on March 16, 1935 in Soliani village, Hamisi Sub-County in Vihiga County. Little did his parents, know that it was indeed the sunrise to one of the greatest football talents in the country.
He was famous among Kenyans from the early 1970s to the early 1990s was the legendary Kenyan football player Joe Kadenge. This was a result of the football talents he used to play for his hometown team, the "Harambee Stars." He had a bad lifestyle after retirement because he played football.
He was not as wealthy as was anticipated given that he played football. While receiving treatment, he passed away in Nairobi's Meridian Hospital. He reportedly left a sizable bill unpaid, proving that he was not as wealthy as one might assume. The fact that his funeral cost $5 million even though he led a meager life is astonishing.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga and Musalia Mudavadi were among those who consistently visited Mzee Kadenge when he was unwell.
Four years ago, former President Kenyatta gave Kadenge Ksh2 million ($19,493) and also directed the football legend be offered a National Hospital Insurance Fund cover.
At that time Kadenge thanked the Head of State and also challenged the government to invest in the sports industry and take care of its heroes.
