Joseph Okumu has been a Kenyan player trending in the European scene for his quality performance as a fullback for Elfsborg in the Swedish League. Okumu a former Chemilil player has been having a successful season in Sweden.
His successful spell in Sweden can be summarized by the fact that top teams in Europe have been in inquiring for his services. Teams like Rangers, Celtic and Lorient were his obvious admirers. Lorient went an extra mile by making a bid for him a bid which Elfsborg may have turned down as rumors coming from Elfsborg claim that Okumu was given a chance to travel to Belgium to process his transfer to Gent and not Lorient.
If he successful undergoes his move from Elfsborg to Gent, Okumu will in August make history as the first Kenyan to play in the first ever UEFA Europa Conference League. Gent play Valarenga in the second qualifying round. Other top teams already in the UEFA Europa Conference League include Tottenham and AS Roma.
Okumu's move to Gent this weekend is further fueled by the fact that He is fit, but he is not included in Elfsborg squad set to face Malmo on Saturday night.
Okumu's move to Gent will be positive step in his career, although no official communication has been relayed, let us be patient and wait to see if soon we will need to get Gent's jerseys.
