Chelsea has had a difficult start to the season after returning from the international break, losing back-to-back matches to Brentford and Real Madrid. The Blues gave up seven goals in two games, looking uncharacteristically bad at the defence, with a Karim Benzema hat-trick sinking the team on Wednesday night.
"It's a heavy loss," Tuhel said shortly after the match, according to BT Sport. It's one of the worst first-half performances I've ever witnessed from us at Stamford Bridge. We can't complain about losing because the first half was so far beow wthatever expectations we had set for ourselves."
Chilwell has a cruciate ligament damage in his knee, which will keep him out for the remainder of the season. The 25-year-old had a strong start to the season, but will not play again until the summer. The left-back was the only other player to miss the match against Real Madrid, along with Callum Hudson-Odoi. Hudson-Odoi only made one appearance in February due to a nagging Achilles injury. The academy graduate has taken no risks, which is understandable given that a damaged Achilles tendon disrupted his quick progress in 2019.
He did not play in Wednesday's match at Stamford Bridge, and his status is presently uncertain.
