The popular and outstanding American gymnast, Simone Biles, has withdrawn from Thursday's individual all-around final in Tokyo. Simone is also a four time Olympic gold medalist. The gymnast withdrew from the women's team final on Tuesday.
Announcing to the media, Biles stated that she wanted to focus on her mental health. This message shocked her fans who expected the best performance from her and bring a gold medal home. However she has received immense praise from the USA gymnastics, the head of the US Olympic team and her fellow athletes for her decision to prioritize her mental wellbeing and is a great role model.
The gymnast was supposed to defend her all-around title on Thursday before competing in the finals of the vault and uneven bars on 1st, 2nd and 3rd August. This was after she attained all five individual finals in Tokyo. Simone will continue to be evaluated daily so as to ascertain whether or not to participate in next week's individual event finals.
