Fred and Matic are contrasting archetypes, & offer something completely different in their play style. What Matic offers, is an ability to play forward, line-breaking passes. This assist to Lingard effectively eliminated 5 players while breaking 2 lines. Important vs a low-block.
Is anyone able to explain what Fred offers? Nothing going forward & abysmal defensively. Is there a hidden stat or invisible job I'm missing?
Manchester United need to build a time machine and take the Matic from 5 years ago and put him in our pivot with Mctominay/Donny.
if ole is going to play a pivot now it should be Matic and McTominay. It is high time Manchester United must stop using Fred Rodriguez as their Central Defensive Midfielder (CDM) if they want to win more games.
McTominay was very impressive and Fred was still regressing makes you think, It’s McTominay who doesn’t need him. Needed to stop losing it in the West Ham half, but if Manchester United keep that same intensity they showed for the last 15 minutes they will more goals with Matic rather than Fred Rodriguez.
It was not a convincing win against West Ham but Manchester United managed to get away with good 3 points, I hope Ole learnt from this that defensive 2 (McFred) isn’t working they need to be more attacking, because that game plan haven’t paid, yet they are simply conceding silly goals.
Matic in current form deserves to play ahead of fred any day. Creating room for players like lingard to play.
What should be abundantly clear to anyone by now (have said for a while), Ole’s preferred midfielder is Matic. He wants a new Matic. That is a rare player but precisely what he wants to complete the midfield and that’s why we wouldn’t just buy “anyone” this summer.
Only right Solskjaer gets praised for his changes against West Ham. Removing Pogba was dubious but Lingard was the right man to throw on and Matic played the ball to him for the winner.
