The defending champions Manchester City edged past Chelsea on Thursday night to bridge the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal. The gunners who were held to a 0-0 draw by third place Newcastle are now only 5 points above the defending champions Manchester City as the race intensifies.
Man City had a slow start in the first half as they put a passive display. Changes by City boss Pep Guardiola at the hour mark, when he brought in Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish for fullbacks Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker saw City come to life as the two substitutes combined well in just three minutes to give City the only goal.
The second half saw City play better than they did in the first half as they bettered Chelsea in all areas, they created chances and were all over the the home side.
Already without seniors in the likes of Reece James and Mason Mount, Chelsea lost Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling to injuries in the first half.
They now languish in 10th place, 10 points from the top four having claimed only 6 points from the last 8 Premier League matches.
