UEFA Champions League

Any Of These 3 Outcomes Would See Chelsea Qualify For The Champions League Finals Today.

Chelsea will be talking Spanish giants Real Madrid in what is arguably the most difficult match of the season. Today's clash will determine whether Chelsea gets into the final of the prestigious champions league awards or not.

So what do Chelsea need to do to book a place in the final ? First leg match between these two teams ended in a 1-1 draw. That means the blues have an important away goal going into the second leg. If the blues therefore manage a 0-0 draw or a win by any margin, they will go through at the expense of real Madrid thanks to the away goal the blues earned on away field.

A 1-1 draw means, we will witness an extra 30 minutes and if the tie is not broken then penalties will decide who goes through. Therefore, the blues will book a ticket into the finals if they emerge winner on penalties. Any other draw apart from the two above means Chelsea will be eliminated. For instance, a 2-2 draw means its 3-3 on aggregate and Real Madrid have 2 away goal. Therefore, the blues would be eliminated since they have fewer away goal. The blues should avoid a goal goal draw at all cost if they are to go through.

The 3rd case scenario that would see Chelsea progress is if they win by any margin. A win for the blues would give them a direct entry since the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw. Elsewhere Manchester City booked a place in the finals of champions league yesterday after beating Paris Saint Germain by 2 goals to nil to make it 4-1 on aggregate.
