When Tokyo, Japan, was given the rights to host the 2025 World Athletics Championships, Kenya announced its intention to submit a bid to host the 2029 event instead.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has promised that Kenya will submit a stronger bid and continue to upgrade existing facilities in order to increase the country's chances of winning.
"Our bid for 2025 was unsuccessful, but we are confident in our ability to submit a good bid in 2029. Our country is too small to be an international athletics powerhouse, and no one should expect the Olympics to be held in Nairobi. We'll put our faith in World Athletics' support and support from the community to submit a far more competitive bid, "said CS Ababu.
Jackson Tuwei, the head of Athletics Kenya, is optimistic that Kenya would be awarded the bid despite failing to host the 2025 Olympics.
He claims that Kenya opted for 2029 rather than 2027 so that the country would have more time to dispel the doping scandal that has plagued it in recent years.
