How Man United Star is Proving Former Manager Right

Signed from Primeria Liga side FC Porto back in the summer of 2018 in a whooping €22million deal, Portuguese star right-back Diogo Dalot was touted by then Manchester United manager Jose Mourihno to be one of the best fullbacks in the world of football reteirating that he was already the best at his age (19).

The now 23 year old star however failed to replicate his initial form with Porto at the Theatre of Dreams with him struggling to establish himself as a potential reliable right back, leading to the £47million signing of England international, Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace the following summer after a greenlight from Norwegian tactician, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Hence, the 2020/21 season saw him (Dalot) spent a season-long loan with Serie A side, AC Milan as Wan-Bissaka proved to be unbeatable in the English Premier League with star strikers including Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane, Raheem Sterling, Wilfred Zaha all struggling to go past him at the right-wing slot.

This season has however seen a drastic change change at the Red half of Manchester with new head coach, Erik ten Hag opting to deploy Diogo Dalot instead of Wan-Bissaka at the right-back despite the latter having a promising spell since his move to Old Trafford.

In seven appearances across all competitions, Dalot has proved to be the real deal with him now boasting an impressive statistics. The 22 year currently braces most touches (408), most tackles won (14), most interceptions (9), joint-most ball recoveries (39), joint-most chances created (10) as well as joint-most aerial duels won (12) as per Squaka Football Data and thus showing his massive improvement since Ten Hag took over the reigns.

Hence, as Jose Mourihno predicted, the 23 year old is in line to become one of the best fullbacks in the world of football and potentially the best in the English Premier League.
