Serie A side SSC Napoli have officially announced the appointment of new head coach with Luciano Spalletti taking over at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium following the sacking of Gennaro Gattusso earlier in the week.

Confirming the appointment, official statement from the club's owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis read (via twitter): "I am pleased to announce that Luciano Spalletti will be the new Napoli coach starting from July 1st. Welcome Luciano, together we will do a great job. Aurelio De Laurentiis."

Luciano Spalletti have had a good track record in his managerial career with him having successful spell at Roma where he led the club to successive Copa Italia (2006/07, 2007/08 seasons) as well as helping Russian side Zenit St Petersburg to win two league titles.

Moreover, the 62 year old had a promising spell with Serie A giants, Inter Milan between 2017 and 2019 before facing the sack and hence, the Blues see him as the perfect replacement for Gattusso.
