Costa has not played professional football since last December when his contract with Atletico Madrid was terminated six months early. He only made 7 La Liga appearances in the 2020/2021 season and netted twice.
Brazil top flight giants, Atletico Mineiro have reached a verbal agreement to sign the 32 year old on a one year contract deal worth approximately $3m with possible bonuses.
The Spain international will undergo his medicals in a couple of days to complete the potential move. Costa would act as a catalyst to the fruitful performance of Atletico Mineiro who are currently leading the Brazil Serie A table with 34 points after 15 matches.
Diego Costa had also been earlier linked with Premier League side, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Portugal top league side, Benfica.
