The race for this season's La Liga title is tighter than ever. The three traditional heavyweights of spanish football are engaged in a fierce battle to be crowned champions of spain. They are Real Madrid, their eternal rivals Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. The top three positions are distinguished by only two points.
This means that each game has to be won since a simple loss could mean a huge blow to title aspirations of either one of them. Atletico hold the top position with 67points, Real Madrid follow closely with 66points, and Barcelona are third with 65points, all after playing 30 games. The remaining 8 games could make or break the season for these football powerhouses.
WHO HAS A BETTER CHANCE?
Real Madrid are slight favourites to retain the title they won last season. They have played both Atletico and Barcelona home and away and they don't have tough matches ahead. Atletico and Barcelona still have a game to play which is a huge advantage for Real since points will be dropped in one way or another. Football, however, is quite unpredictable and anything could happen.
However, Real Madrid still has a disadvantage since they are still engaged in european football which means playing upto 3 games a week where the other teams only play once a week. Fatigue could well take it's toll on Real.
The last time Atletico won la liga was back in 2014, Barcelona back in 2019, and Real Madrid 2020 as earlier mentioned. Real hold the record for most title wins with 34.
