If there is one player who has had a career changing moment in his career at Chelsea it has to be Trevoh Chalobah by all means. The 21 year old has not only earned the trust of Thomas Tuchel in just a year, he has also intergrated himself into the senior squad. Chalobah was very close to joining Valencia at the start of the season but after a brave perfomance against Arsenal and Tottenham during the pre season, Thomas Tuchel realised that he could be the perfect defender to replace Kurt Zouma who had just joined West Ham on a permanent transfer.
With Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger set to leave in the summer, Chalobah is expected to be a regular first eleven member next season. He has already proven that he can handle the heat of the EPL and the only way to refine his current skills is to give him as much exposure as possible.
Speaking of Andreas Christensen, the Danish defender has already signed the paperwork to join Barcelona and will be announced officially in the next couple of weeks. Barcelona have hailed the signing of the 23 year old as a promising transfer and they hope that the Cobham product will live up to the club’s expectations next season. Barcelona have nonetheless made it crystal clear to him that he will have to fight for his place in the starting eleven against Gerrard Pique, Oscar Mingueza, Ronald Araujo, Samuel Umtiti and Lenglet.
Thomas Tuchel was very sentimental about the transfer saying that he could not do anything to convince Christensen to stay and that ship has already sailed. He further wished the defender the best of luck and mentioned how it was an honor to work with him at Chelsea even if it was just for a short time.
With Cesar Azpilicueta’s future still uncertain, there is growing speculation that Reece James might inherit the captain’s arm band from the Spanish veteran. Reece James has often been the voice of reason in the dressing room and his leadership skills in training make him the leading contender for the high role. Can he live up to the task if given the chance to lead? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
