Ferguson Takes Over as Everton's Caretaker Manager Following Rafa Benitez's Departure

Premier League side Everton have appointed Duncan Ferguson as caretaker manager as they try to find a worthy replacement for sacked manager Rafa Benitez.

The Toffees have been heavily linked with Belgium coach Roberto Martinez since the Spaniard's departure on Sunday but chances of acquiring the Belgian's services seem remote following recent developments. This has compelled the Goodison Park outfits to hand the temporary reins to Ferguson.

In an official club statement, the former Scotland international will be assisted by Everton's former star Leighton Baines, Alan Kelly and John Ebbrell.

The 50-year-old led the Toffees to a single win and three draws back in 2019 when he held the same position for a couple of days following Marco Silva's departure. Everton's poor run in form under Benitez has left them sitting 16th in the PL table, and Ferguson hopes to turn things around.

He will be commanding the touchline on Saturday as Everton host Aston Villa.
