Senegal's Lions of Teranga have become the first African team to qualify for this year's world cup tournament round of 16. This became a reality after the reigning African cup of Nations champions produced a masterpiece that enabled them to beat Central American side Equador 2-1.
Senegal which was part of the group A managed to secure the second place in the group after garnering 6 points in the three group stage matches. They became second to Holland which won the group with 7 points.
Qatar who are the hosts bowed out of the tournament after losing all of their group stage matches finish number 4 in their group.
The other African teams will be looking to follow in the Senegal's footsteps and also manage to make it to the final 16.
