Ferdinand Omanyala Omurwa, (born 2 January 1996) is a Kenyan sprinter who specializes in the 100m and 200m events. He is currently the African record holder and 8th fastest man of all-time in the 100 metres after clocking a time of 9.77 on 18th Sep 2021 in Nairobi. He is of Luhya ethnicity. He is a Kenya nationality. He was born on 02 January 1996 25 years old. He is married to Lavender Omanyala. He is a professional in sprinting. Ferdinand Omanyala Omurwa made history when he became the first Kenyan to qualify for the 100m Olympic Semi-final. He qualified for the 100m semi-final in the Tokyo 2021 Olympics after finishing third in heat 5 after clocking 10.01 seconds, equaling his national record.
Omanyala began his sporting career back in 2012 while at friends Kamusinga High school. He was part of the school's rugby team where he caught the attention of the national team scouts. Upon completing high school, he was called to play for the under 20 Kenya Sevens team but there were no trials. He later on made a switch in his career when he quit rugby to join Kenya's athletics team in 2017 and as it is said, the rest is history.
