Bottom-Up Sports: Namwamba Reveals Plans to Unveil "Talanta Hela" to Grow Sports from Grassroots

Youth and Sports Cabinet Secretary(CS) Ababu Namwamba held discussions with Africa FIFA delegation led by Director Member Association Africa Mr. Gelson Fernandes to deliberate on the state of Kenya's football and the government's plan to revive football in the country.

Joined by Sports and Arts Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke, the Cabinet Secretary assured the delegation of the government's support both in terms of resources and its readiness to allow football federation to run football affairs in the country.

Ababu urged the delegation to reciprocate the governments goodwill by equally supporting the government's demand for accountability, transparency, and integrity in the running of football affairs in the country.

Mr. Fernandes on his part assured the CS of the FIFA readiness to support Kenya's football revival plan, lauding the CS for his move to resolve football impass in the country, that resulted in FIFA lifting Kenya's suspension from international football.

"We would like to thank the government through your ministry for abiding by the FIFA requirement & demonstrating willingness to put football matters ahead of all other issues. Indeed, your role in getting Kenya's suspension lifted is one of the greatest things that happened to Kenya's football," said Mr. Fernandes.

CS Ababu took the team through Kenya's football revival plan, outlining to the delegation the government signature grassroot football project, Talanta Hela, which he said would provide a platform for raw talents to be spotted and nurtured across the country.

"We have a plan for football in this country. Our plan will run through a digital platform called Talanta Hela, which is our signature project with the blessings of H.E. President William Ruto. We are determined to build football from the grassroot level, bottom up," said CS Ababu

Namwamba called on the FIFA delegation to extend support in the development programme through their coach on the ground and football for school program. "We urge you to walk with us in this development program, especially through FIFAs football for school program.

We also look forward to FIFAs support in training our coaches so that they can adequately support our revival plan through their competence and and, by having the legally recognised mandate by FIFA as youth trainers," added the CS.
