Manchester United produced a strong performance in the second half yesterday to beat newly-promoted Brentford FC 3-1 in the Brentford Community stadium. Manchester United displayed an applaudable attacking performance, mainly revolving around midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes who has always, stepped up when needed. The defensive resilience was however broken by Ivan Toney, Brentford’s regular scorer, but his consolation goal was not enough to deter Manchester United from their hard-fought win.
Ralf Ragnick has been regularly starting second choice wing-backs Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles instead of Ole Solskjaer’s first choice wing-backs Aaron Wan Bissaka and Luke Shaw. According to reliable sources, Ragnick does not rank them as high as Solskjaer used to during his tenure. Harry Maguire is another player who Ragnick is finding it hard to entrust the defensive responsibilities but because he is the club’s skipper and a record signing, he is forced to regularly play him.
The above-mentioned players are however on borrowed time as it has been revealed that Ragnick has made a personal request to the club’s board to replace the three defenders because he thinks they are not good enough for the club. The reports have also said that Ragnick has already lined up a few prospects he wants as replacements for the three players and the board have a copy of the names tabled by Ragnick.
Luke Shaw was impressive last season and many even claimed that he was the best left-back in the league after a stellar season campaign. After the Euro competitions, however, Luke Shaw exhibited signs of incompetence and lack of sharpness and that made Ole Gunnar Solskjaer second guess his decision to play him in some important matches. Ragnick on the other hand did not even give Shaw the benefit of the doubt and has been benching him in almost all the Premier League matches.
Aaron Wan Bissaka was also highly rated last season despite his low goal contribution but he too lost his golden touch during the start of the season when his fitness levels were reported to be inconsistent. This gave Diogo Dalot the chance to sneak his way into the starting eleven and defend his new role at the club to full effect.
