The winners of the Valencia Marathon this year are Kelvin Kiptum and Amane Beriso.In a stunning new track record time of two hours, one minute, and 53 seconds, Kiptum, competing in his first marathon, destroyed the talented field to win the men's race.
In addition to becoming the quickest marathon debut ever, he now ranks third among all speed men. Only Kenenisa Bekele and world record holder Eliud Kipchoge have run faster than the 23-year-old Kiptum.
Alexander Mutiso of Kenya came in second with a time of 2:03:00, followed in second by Tanzania's Gabriel Geay. Ethiopian Amane Beriso edged over fellow countrywoman Letesenbet Gidey to take first place in the women's race with a time of 2:14:58, a new Personal Best and course record.
After Brigid Kosgei of Kenya, who holds the world record, and Ruth Chepng'etich, Beriso is the third woman in history to break the 2:15 barrier.
The fastest women's marathon debut time ever was achieved by Gidey, who finished in an astounding 2:16:49. Third place went to Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya in 2:17:29.
Amane Beriso of Ethiopia achieved a new Personal Best and course record in the women's race, defeating fellow countrywoman Letesenbet Gidey to take second place in 2:14:58.
