What Happened To African Star John Obi Mikel

Africa has been producing some of the best players who have been impressing in Europe over the years. A good number of these players have been playing in the English Premier League for Chelsea. Well, John Obi Mikel is one of the African stars who spent several years at Stamford Bridge. The Nigerian international played as a defensive midfielder for the Blues where he won several trophies including the UEFA Champions League and 2 English Premier League titles.

However, John Obi Mikel disappeared from the eyes of many football fans in 2017 when he left Chelsea for Tianjin TEDA. He however only spent one season at the Chinese club before returning to England where he joined Middlesbrough. Mikel made just 18 appearances for Middlesbrough before being sold to Trabzonspor in 2019 where he played for one season. The following season, Obi Mikel returned to the England where he joined Stoke City.

However, the currently 34 years old moved to Kuwait during the last summer transfer window. He is currently playing for Kuwait SC. He already retired from international competitions in 2019 and won't be available for Nigeria in the next FIFA World Cup to be played in 2022.
