Since joining Qatar Stars League club Al Duhail from Japanese J1 league club Kashiwa Reysol, Kenya national team captain Michael Olunga has been on a fine run netting goals at will.His first individual award at Qatar was the AFC Champions League golden boot award which came in late 2021.
Recent reports indicate that Olunga has added another golden boot award to his cabinet after the leagues last matches of the season were played on the night of Friday March 11.Olunga has clinched the award with a total of 24 goals over the 2021/22 season.His closest rival Andrè Ayew failed to score in his last match of the season enabling Olunga to win the prestigious award on a 9 goals lead.
This is Olunga's third golden boot award in a major league after winning the Kenya Premier League and Japanese J1 league golden boot awards in 2015 and 2020 respectively.Olunga's club Al Duhail finished second at the league table with 47 points from 22 matches meaning that he will be playing in the upcoming AFC Champions League.
