The English Premier League continued this weekend as Mikel's Arteta side Arsenal traveled to Villa Park to face Aston Villa in the early kick-off fixture. Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was going to face his former club for the second time this season after emotionally quitting the Emirates Stadium after failing to get the first spot after more than ten years at the club.
Arsenal was looking to bounce back from the midweek disappointing defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, things went sour after Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins found the back of the net in the second minute.
Arsenal failed to find an equalizer despite calling off their captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and former Chelsea midfielder Willian from the bench.
On the other hand, the Gunners fans found themselves blaming the Video Assistant Referee, (VAR) for failing to foul Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez for bringing Alexander Lacazette down from the corner. This is the second time Arsenal fans are blaming the VAR for not taking their cries seriously especially after sending David Luiz off controversially in the last game.
Arsenal dropped to the 10th position with 31 points while Aston Villa moved to 8th position on the standings with 35 points.
